There is a very good book available on Egglestons from these parts of England, not related to Bygod in any known way, but it does contain 500 years of egglestons including various people that moved to other countries e.g. New Zealand, Austrailia and Canada. The earliest entry in the book is Thomas Eccleston who married Cycley Martin at Wilne, Derbyshire, England in 1591, but from their children until present day the name has been Eggleston.
I first posted on here a few years ago, and have just revisited so thought i'd add this info.

My name is Shawn Eggleston and I found your site a few years ago and it
was really interesting... well.. I've come back and looked at it again and
I'm just AMAZED that you found so much information.
I did find out that I'm most likely in Richards Line, because I found my
Great Grandfather and his siblings listed there. He is listed on Page 19,
Emmett Edgar (18901959).
To update your site if you'd so like, I'll give you the following
information.
I'm not sure of the name of Emmett's wife, but he had several children,

1.1 Dr. Hiram J. Eggleston was born in either 1793 or 1803 in New Hampshire and died March 25, 1870 in Knox County Ohio. He married UNKNOWN before 1835. On Decemeber 17, 1835 Hiram married Barbara/Barbary Thrall in Muskingum County, Ohio. She was the daughter of Aurelius Thrall and Katherine Metzer. Barbara was born in 1814 and died January 7 1889 in Mt.Vernon,Knox County, Ohio.She apparently had a very short temper.

2.1 Willard Eggleston was born abt. 1825. He married Catherine Steinmetz on April 10 1846 in Pleasant township, Knox County, Ohio. He moved his family to De Kalb, Missouri sometime after 1863.

2.2 Byron Eggleston was born in September of 1836 near Springfield, Illinois. A biography written about him a Knox County Ohio History book (1880) said that he was born "in a tent of the Cherokee tribe." On May 27, 1860 he married Elizabeth Ann Harris, the daughter of John Harris. Byron attend a medical college in Springfield Illinois but never graduated. None the less, he practiced medicine in several places in Knox County, Ohio. He died October 20, 1896 of a stroke at the St.James Hotel. He had suffered a first stoke which had paralyzed him. He is buried at the Mound View Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Ohio.

Was sent to the Division hospital in the rear of Vicksburg on July 4, 1863 and died July 27, 1863 at St. Louis, Mo; He is buried in section 32, grave 2 Jefferson Barracks Cemetery, Mo.
2.5 Adnyron Eggleston served in the Civil War in 2nd Ohio Heavy Artillery (company I). and possibly the 4th Ohio Volunteer Infantry co. A as well. He died of disease before the end of the war.
2.6 Lorinda Eggleston was born October 16, 1842 in Utica, Licking County, Ohio. She married Richard Sutton May 22, 1860 in Mt. Vernon, Knox County, Ohio. Richard was born January 1, 1833 in Stratton, Cornwall, England. He was the son of Thomas Sutton and Ann Bennett. Lorinda died September 26, 1925 of stomach cancer.

He apparently became insane during the war and may have been manic-depressive. He married Hannah Swartworth in Delaware County, Ohio on August 11, 1874. He died October 4, 1919 at the Columbus State Hospital in Columbus, Ohio where he had lived for 23 years.

Our branch of the world-wide Eggleston clan arrived in Australia on the First Fleet convict ships of 1788. Ancestor George Eggleston was sentenced on forgery charges at the Durham Assizes, and transported aboard the prison ship Alexander to Sydney. His creative talents have continued down a line of artists, artisans and (dare I say it) latter-day forgers who, unlike George, have managed not to get caught during their occasional forays to the dark side.
We have traced George and his folks back to Teesdale, north of the Yorkshire Dales, specifically to the village of Eggleston. It's a tiny place to the west of Durham, about 12 miles west of Bishop Auckland and 6 miles north of Barnard Castle. Mostly Eggleston is a hamlet of whitewashed stone cottages beside the River Tees, but tucked away on the other side of the river is Eggleston Hall, a manor house renowned for its fine gardens. (Sadly George & company took their name from the village, not from any claim on the estate, otherwise we would have presented ourselves for afternoon tea the day we visited.)
A few miles to the south of Barnard Castle we found the ruins of Eggleston Abbey, which was established in the 11th century under the patronage of the old line of kings. Henry VIII did his best to destroy it during the Reformation and generations of farmers have built their crofts from its stones, but there's still a considerable amount of structure left to make it a lovely ruin.
Mike and I spent quite a while exploring Teesdale with our kids. It's a beautiful corner of England, tucked beneath the Pennines and the wild North Moors. The Eggleston connection made it very special, and got Mike going on a series of paintings for family members who aren't able to see it first-hand.
It would be interesting to hear from egglestons on other continents. At last count there are about 1500 of us in Australia, ranging from judges and politicians to felons. We fit the gamut in between.

2) William Alfred Eggleston Sr. ("Old Alf")(1841-1918) married Elizabeth Dobbins (1841-1929). William had immigrated to America from England as a boy, and came over with a sister and brother, Mary and Frank. William and Elizabeth resided in Malone, NY area. He possibly served in the Civil War for 142nd NY Co. H.
3) William Alfred Eggleston Jr. (24 Nov 1861-9 Mar 1929) married Cora Aurelia Baxter (24 Jun 1867-24 Sep 1943) in 1880.

Benedict Eggleston Sr and Jr. were both listed in the DAR patriot Index of the Revolutionary War. Sr. was born 1739 in CT and died 8-29-1834. Married to Abigail Woodward. Sr. was a private. Benedict Jr. was a private also. He was born 6-18-1763 in CT and died 12-16-1859 in VT His first wife was Content Brown and they had eight or nine children. His second wife was Sally Skinner and they either had 2 or 3 children. The reason this is questionable is because I have a birth date for Content Eggleston as Sept 27, 1809 and the death of Content Brown Eggleston was listed as 1808. Was Content the first child of second wife Sally Skinner or the last child of Content Brown Eggleston who may have died in childbirth?

Polly Eggleston married Alpheus Brownell who died in Wyoming Co. NY. (9 Mar 1830) Her second husband was Isaac Plant. Polly and Alpheus also had 10 children. The eighth, their daughter Harriett b. (12 Aug. 1828) in Monroe NY and married Salma Rogers in NY. They moved to Viola WI and as pioneers helped to settle the area. They had five children. The first one was born to Salma's first wife who died in childbirth. The other four were of the union.

My husband's father was born in June 16, 1906. I do not have the date he died.
My husband's mother was born in Craig, Colorado. I do not have her birth date.
She just died this last July 27, 2001. She is also buried in Craig, Colo.
My Husband's great grandmother was Geromino's sister. There were three children in my
husband's immediate family; Elbert Junior Egelston was the oldest son from this
marriage. He was born July 28, 1933; Alberta Josephine Egelston was 2 years younger than
my husband. Then when his mother remarried she had a child with the new husband. It was a girl whose name is Rosemary Ann Egelston. She is a half sister. She just turned 51 this past august. She has two children; A son Martin Lamar Moretensen. He should be around 30 years old now. His where abouts is unknown. The last we heard of him he was in
Porto Rico. No one has had any information from him in the past 10 years. He was the oldest of Mike and Rosemary's children. Nikki Mortensen, is a traveling nurse. She has been all over the United States and even to London on her job.
Now for our children, we have a daughter and a son. Our son is in Mexico and has been for over 10 years now. He likes it there. I do not worry about him as he is now out of the area here and is now drug free. He likes Mexico. Our daughter lives here in California in fact up at Rainbow just south of Tecmecula, CA. Here is as much as I have very little on the Egelston line with this spelling.
I know that there are a lot of spellings of this last name. I found out somewhere that
all the Egelston's no matter the spelling be with the double "gg" in it or if
it had an "e" added to the end of it. We think that it came from England but
so far we have not found anything to prove it. There are so many various of
this last name. This is the Egelston family from Utah, Colorado and California.
My husband's immediate family is now nearly gone. His father was Albert Thomas
Egelston. His mother's maiden name was Madge Marie French, she came from
Craig, Colo. He is related to Germonio by his great grandmother. She was
Germonio's sister. The only thing that is not indian is his blonde hair that
has now turned completely white. He inherited the open socket in his hips that
that is what he inherited from his great grandmother. I have no idea where to
look for information like that for his indian heritage. He did inherit the open
of the hip sockets. It slips out and in at will. Not his but it's own mind.
The Brass-Fleming side of the family is my mother's. This where the irish
temper comes in. I had very black hair as a child. It is now turning grey
now, and with the aging so goes the head of hair. My husband's head of hear
is still very thick.
We have two children: Our oldest child is our son, Kim Jay Egelston and our
second child is a daughter, Shawn Joyce Egelston. She has a son, Kody who
just turned 12 on the twenty-eight of August.
Our son as far as we know does not have any children. He has never married
and seems to be doing o.k. He lives in Tuxpan, Mexico at the present.
I am Reva Joyce Brass-Egelston. I am trying very hard to find out anything
on my father's family. I know that grandfather Brass was English and that
my Grandmother was of German decent. She died shortly after I was born.
Grandfather Brass died when my father was 3 years old.
My Grandmother Fleming died before I was born. And Grandfather Fleming died
in the late 50's. I missed out on all the things that grandparents
do with their grandchildren. I try to spend as time as I can with my two
grandchilldren. Time goes by so fast and before long they will be on their
way to college. Kody will probably not go any farther than Middle school.
He was born with a heart that had twisted in formation and it was backwards.
He has had a pacemaker since shortly after his birth. When he was three
they went in and opened him up and put in a pacemaker for his heart.
It nearly killed him as somewhere between the recovery room and the ICU
Unit a blood vessel rupurted and the nurse in the ICU unit was pumping
blood into as fast as he was pumping it out. He was in the hospital for over
six weeks. He was three years ahead of his conalogical age when he went
in but came out as a new born baby again.
If anyone can help me with our heritage from the information that I have
now, I sure would appreciate it. I tried getting it from some of the family
but everyone is now gone. My husband has a half-brother that lives in
Arizona, but does not talk much to Berta Jo, Bert or Rosemary his half
sister. Now it is time for me to go. Hope someone can come up with some
information for me along the way. Thanks in advance for any help that you

Jonathan Streeter Egelston, DOB 1842, married Lucy Monroe in Pendleton,
County KY., then moved with wife and children Asa George Egelston, John
Egelston, Amanada Ann Egelston, James W.S. Egelston and Catherine Egelston
Coles County, Illinois in 1862 where he settled on a 20 Acre Farm. He died
December 1, 1876 at Coles County and his farm was sold to pay off a debt.
Asa George Egelston married twice, the first to Amanda Sheeks and the second
time to Adeline Eggers. He had two children Amanda (Marissa) who died at the
age of ten and Asa Telford who died in 1948 at the age of 58. Asa Telford
first marriage was to Arabelle Clementine Rhoads. Two children were born to
marriage, Rex Vernon Egelston and Ella Mae Egelston. He had two children by
his second wife, Nell Clay, Charles and Jean Egelston, and four children by his
third wife, Myrtle Egelston, Joann, Dresden, Maurine, and Judy. He had no
by his fourth wife Esta Clark or his fifth wife, Ethel Stevenson.
Legal documents from Kentucky in the 1860's shows that the spelling of the
name was originally Eggleston, but that Jonathan Streeter Egelston signed
his name Egelston, as did his siblings.

This is the information that I have, Jeanne Eggleston Feeney. James Eggleston,son of Bigod, born about 1620 was marriedabout 1654 inWinsor to Hester. She was reported to be the first female child born in Hartford. James Eggleston was in the Pequot Indian fight(1637), for which seervices he recieved a grant of 40 acres if kand. He was a farner. James Eggleston and Hester, his wife had 9 childre, including rhe first three listed below James, born January 1,1656,died May 1675--Ambushed abd killed by Indians at Deerfield, Massachusetts.

Thomas Eggleston, son of James and brother of John, was born July 27,1661. He married Grace Hoskins. She was born July 28,1666 to Anthiny Hoskins (1632-1707) and his wife Isabel Brown (died 1698)who were married July 16,1656 at Windsor. Isabel Brown was perhaps a sister of Peter Brown of Windsor,born about 1631. Thomas Eggleston was a farmer and resided in Windsor. He died April 6, 1732, and left an estate of 387 pounds. Grace died March 27,1739. They had 12 children including Esther,born October 19, 1710. Thay are also the ancestors of the Abolitionist John Brown.
Edward Eggleston, Son oh John, was born January 31,1707 died in 1758. He married his first cousin, Esther Eggleston daughter of Thomas, and resided in Windsor, on Broad Streer. He moved to Torrington where his estate amounted o 120 Pounds. The first patents of Torrington were issued in 1732, however, in 1739 only 9 families were living in Torrington. A fort was built in 1744 and a schoolhouse within the fort in 1745. They had 5 children including Joseph.

My ggg grandfather was Reuben Eggleston TERRY born 6-30-1756, in Enfield, CT, itis believed. His parents were Reuben/Benjamin TERRY and "Miss" EGGLESTON. I have no more information than that. She is presumed to be from the Hartford, CT area. Does anyone know a "Miss" Eggleston from that time period who married a TERRY. My Grandfather was Srigley Griffen Eggleston .I am not sure of his date of birth. I think it could have been in about 1875. I don't know a lot about my Eggleston family , My GF married Daisy Woods and they had 5 children and my mother is the only living child of theirs. All she can tell me is that Srigley's father was called Captian Eggleston. He was married to a lady who had two children by him.My GF lost contact with these half brothers because they left with mother. He always looked for any Eggleston he heard of. My mother's family is descended from a daughter of Begot Eggleston, Sarah, who m. John Pettibone.
Their son Samuel had a daughter Hepsibah, who m. Charles Humphrey; their daughter Hepsibah Humphrey m. Charles Humphrey, and their daughter Hepsibah Humphrey m. Sgt Elisha Cornish.
The third Hepsibah, Hepsibah Cornish, m. Deacon Theophilus Humphrey Sr, who was a great-nephew of Hepsibah Pettibone's husband, Charles.
The Humphreys descended from another early Windsor CT settler, Michael Humphrey, and his wife Priscilla Grant. Michael Humphrey is one of the few early Windsor settlers NOT originally from Dorchester MA.

My mother, Dorothy Jean Gayler (born D.J. Egglestone 1929 Bolton Lancashire UK)
is the daughter of Dorothy Marion Kenyon and Jack Egglestone (born Longsight, Manchester UK 1898)
Jack was a railway worker, although I know he was with the Royal flying Corps in
the first world war.

The Eggleston family in the North East of England, were based in the town of South Shields, a few miles from the village of Eggleston in County Durham, England, is a famous sea-going family. Capt.
