I am searching for my biological family. The name I was told I was given, before adoption, was Barbara Jane Eggleston. I was born August 14, 1965 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. My court records show I had 8 or 9 siblings at time of birth,(may be more that followed). One sibling was described as having a mental disability. My siblings may have a different father than me. That's about all I know. Any info would be appreciated.

Born Middlefield, Massachusetts in 1786. In 1807 the family traveled by oxcart to the Ohio territory, where they helped found the town of Chagrin Falls. Chauncey became prominent in civic and political affairs, serving two terms as senator, among other appointments and offices. I have a wonderful and quite long autobiography that he wrote -- far too much for me to post here. However, if anyone is interested, you may e-mail me. The writing speaks of trading and fighting with the Indians, carving out a living in the wilderness, founding a town, and many other interesting things of historical and family interest. I would be interested in learning anything anyone else might know of this branch of my family. Please e-mail me if you can provide any information.

Born in 1853, Francis Otto Eggleston was a minister, a physician, and a writer. I have a scrapbook he put together for my mother of many of his writings. In his later years he adhered to transcendentalism and was quite Emersonian in his writings. Married to Clara Brown, their children were Pearl Abagail (my grandmother) and Paul Willard. I'd be happy to provide other information to those interested, though there is too much to post here. I would also be interested in knowing what anyone else may know of this branch of my family.

Mary Elizabeth "Molly" Egelston was born 8 Sept 1864, in Kentucky, the daughter of George W. and Nancy Jane Riley Egelston. I don't know the county in which she was born, but, in 1870, when she was six years old, the family was living in Pendleton County, Kentucky. The Federal Census for that year listed thre Egelston children as Rachel, Amos Frank, Alfred, Mary E., Robert L., and Lewis. By the time for the 1880 Federal Census, the family had moved to Menifee County, Kentucky. It was at Frenchgburg in Menifee County where Mary Elizabeth "Molly" met her future husband, Alfred Buckner "Buck" Cope, the son of William Jackson and Delilah Strong Cope. He was born 18 Feb 1862 in Breathitt County Kentucky. They were married 14 June 1885 in Menifee County. Their eight children were all born in Menifee County. They are Molly (b. 1886, died in infancy), John Leonard (b. 23 Oct 1888, d. 22 July 1946), Louis Shelby (b. 7 Aug 1889, d. 4 Feb 1972), E. E. "Dock" (b. 1891), Meriba D., (b. 16 May 1896, d. 6 May 1974), Oma (b. 1898), O. Clarence and Pearl. "Molly" and "Buck" left Kentucky with their five youngest children and moved to Oklahoma in 1909. Their two oldest sons, Leonard, and Lewis Shelby were married in Menifee Coounty and had begun raising families, but they soon followed thier parents to Oklahoma. My dad, Elwood Thomas Cope, born 28 July 1911, the son of Louis Shelby and Abba Francis Klaber Cope was four years old when his parents left Kentudky, but my dad's heart never left.

Her father's name was Clifford Ecclestone. He was born, I believe, sometime between 1890 and 1900 in the State of Ohio. I think both of his parents were also born in Ohio. He had one son, still living, David Ecclestone. He had a sister, Gertrude. He had a nephew, Dean Ecclestone, by a brother whose name I do not know. I came across this site by accident, and was amazd to read there were so many Egglestons out there. BUT, apart from one person from the UK, there rest were all from the US, so I thought I had better ket the world know that Egglestons exist in Australia as well. My name is Lyn, and I married an Eggleston named Simon. He was the second of two sons of Geoff and Betty Eggleston. Simon's brother's name is Colin, and he is also married to a Lyn. Both Colin and Simon have two daughters each, so I guess this is the end of the line for the Eggleston family name for this particular branch of the tree! Colin's daughters are Vanessa (born 1970), and Victoria (born 1972). My daughters are Kristie (born 1973) and Jennifer (born 1976). Simon's father, Geoff, was one of three boys and two girls, and since the boys married and had children, some of them male, the name Eggleston will continue to be represented here for at least another generation. 'Here' by the way is Victoria, a State in the southeast of Australia. Since Austrlia was only settled about 200 years ago by Europeans (English to be precise) the Egglestons do not have such an extensive and impressive family tree as I have read on this website for the Egglestons in America. However, there was an Eggleston on the 'First Fleet' - the ship that brought over the first group of white settlers to Australia in 1770. I have no idea how long my branch of Egglestons have been here however, although it is a number of generations. Although I have been meaning to do so for a long time, I have never got around to doing the family genealogy, but I will some day, and post the results on this website. So I would love to hear from any Australian members of the Eggleston family, as it might save me a lot of work. My name is Lyn Eggleston and I can be reached at leglest@vic.bigpond.net.au

They lived there until the Saints were driven out in the spring of 1846. They went to Winter Quarters, then in 1851 to Council Bluffs, Iowa. Samuel was elected Justice of the peace at the first election held in Pottawatomie County, Iowa. He held that office for ten years. I am trying to find out where the Virginia Egglestons came from. I know two Richards came to Virginia in the early 1600's, to Jamestown. They acquired land near Williamsburg, now on Ironbound Road, call Powhattan Plantation. The house still stands. From there the family moved to Amelia County, west of Richmond. Major and Congressman Joseph Eggleston and his brother built two homes there, still standing. They are buried at Grub Hill Cemetery. Amelia County family moved on, some to Port Gibson, Mississippi. Charles and William moved to delta of Mississippi near Greenwood. Family now in Virginia, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas. Contact Joseph Eggleston Gardner at jgarnder@davlin.net.
